Land + History Acknowledgement

Kiersten acknowledges and thanks the original Muscogee/Hitchiti custodial cultivators of the land she lives upon, knowing that this land was not offered to the colonizers willingly. She is grateful for the opportunity to do her part in connecting with the land, sea, and community to preserve the richness of this piece of Earth for future generations to enjoy as well.

With a heavy heart, Kiersten apologizes for the gruesome colonization of Native American land which was carried out by the hands of some of her European ancestors, understanding that she inherited the benefits of a tainted gift by being born into the United States of America.

Kiersten also acknowledges the injustice towards African Americans carried out by the hands of George Washington (one of her American ancestors by blood) as he enslaved hundreds of humans, utilizing female bodies sexually against their will, resulting in Kiersten’s blended DNA. Washington’s shift in perspective later in life is recognized, but it does not undo the harmful impact of his choices. There is no justification or undoing of the ripple effects of harm that are felt to this day in countless bodies and for this, Washington’s achievements for this country have been tainted and reflect an under-represented painful story in human history.

Kiersten also feels the pain in her tissues as a 2nd generation American-born child through epigenetic bodily stories of the Spanish colonization of Mexico, causing harm to her Zacatecos/Chichimecan ancestors despite their non-consent. These traumas in her living tissues continue to connect her to her Hispanic ancestors while offering her daily lessons in boundaries and empathy, showing her the kind of human she continues to choose to become each day.

Kiersten’s goal is to model a consistently evolving lifestyle as she continues to learn her part in racial injustices and shift to become a better version of herself each day. She acknowledges her imperfections in this process, but will never stop striving for human equality in all forms.

If you are interested to learn about the tribes which originated in the land you are currently on, Kiersten recommends the Native Lands website for your explorations.
